Fanal is one of the most emblematic places in the municipality of Porto Moniz, it is located between Ribeira da Janela and the Paúl da Serra plateau.

Well-known for their unique beauty and century-old Tis (Ocotea foetens) woods, these specimens that resist time go back to the period before the discovery of the Island. They are part of the Laurissilva forest classified as World Natural Heritage by UNESCO.

On the trails now recovered for mountain biking you can visit the viewpoint of Fio and enjoy the ingenious installation of cables for the transportation of firewood to the Chão da Ribeira, pedaling next to the winter lagoon of Fanal, or, for the more arduous, ride all the Enduro trails that go down towards the Ribeira da Janela.
